Harlow sponsored the machining of the molds for the Iowa State University Solar car.
Feb. 8, 2010
The students are required to design the car from the ground up via computer aided design. After their design was complete Harlow donated our programming and machining to complete their molds for the body and the wheel fairings.
The students shipped their mold blanks from Iowa on a donated truck to Harlow the week before our planned machine date. The students came in on a Friday to set everything up and on Saturday morning we started.
Harlow programmed from their models and was able to show the students what the manufacturing process was like taking their models, generating motion for the machine path, using VERICUT to insure the motion is correct and the tape generated would not violate any surfaces, then out to the machine where they got to see the machine cut their model. Once compete they loaded the molds back on the truck and back to Iowa.
